Here is the major problem though; there are scams out there. Unfortunately, where there is an interest and money involved, there will be honest traders and of course ones that simply want to steal peoples money. Checking the site for any discrepancies is the first process.

Believe it or not, some auction sites have auctions dating back as old as 2002, yet they are still saying that they are live. That being said, the amount of auctions they have online also has significance. Also take into account that the traders information can be found on WHOIS, which can give people an idea whether they are genuine or not. For example, a site on US auctions is not likely to be owned by someone in Nigeria.

Another great thing to have when passing over money is full contact details. Sometimes personal contact details will be sufficient, but bear a few things in mind. Most real Government auction sites will be run through a Corporation. Try and find out the Corporation name and all the contact details. This will give people piece of mind more than anything else!

Purchasing items at Government auction sites can be fun, profitable and save people money, but it can be dangerous, so do lots of research!
